DREAMING IN EARTH and GOLD
My contribution to this group show is the abstract painting 'May Gold Dreams Grow.' It is an exploration of the subconscious landscape where our deepest aspirations are rooted. It challenges the viewer to look beyond the transient and locate a source of enduring value within the chaos of daily life.

May Gold Dreams Grow, Acrylic on canvas, 18 x 24 in. Presented in 'In Your Dreams' exhibition at La Quinta Museum.
The painting's tactile quality is emphasized by the choice of materials: Earth Pigments of various colors were used, grounding the piece in the natural world and giving it a raw, textural honesty. I find working with these pigments to be deeply healing. There is a humbling energy in using materials that are thousands of years old; it reminds us that we are part of something much larger than our daily stresses. This elemental connection underscores the central form of the tree, a powerful archetype for growth, resilience, and the connection between the earth and the heavens. The tree emerges not literally, but as a spiritual scaffolding upon which future potential is built.
The use of radiant gold pigment is a deliberate choice, symbolizing not mere material wealth, but the precious, non-negotiable value of the self and the dignity of one’s personal vision. The gold is integrated to represent the potential for abundance that lies latent within every intention and dream. It catches the light, reflecting the dynamic nature of hope itself and elevating the earthy tones.

Through layers of pigment and textured application, the painting manifests the inner struggle and eventual triumph that accompany any significant personal growth. It is an affirmation that when we nurture our visions, they don't just survive—they grow into something magnificent and gilded with success. The work serves as a wish, a prayer, and a declaration for the viewer to embrace the precious dreams they hold.
Even though this work is smaller than the large-scale canvases I typically work with, it’s proof that you can create a huge shift in energy or a feeling of expansive wonder in one small painting.
The "Pour" and the Peace
The creation of this piece was a journey in itself. I used my signature pouring process to let the pigments flow across the surface, allowing them to mingle and settle in their own time.
This technique creates a beautiful texture that you can almost feel with your eyes—much like the shifting, tactile landscapes we often visit in our sleep. Out of this flow, the silhouette of a tree began to emerge—a golden tree rooted in the earth but reaching for the stars. As I worked, I felt a profound sense of peaceful serenity wash over me. That is what I hope to pass on to you when you stand in front of it. In a world that can feel loud and chaotic, this painting is my "dream" of stillness.

According to the field of Neuroaesthetics, the art we choose to look at actually changes our brain chemistry. By focusing on organic shapes and the healing frequency of gold, this piece is designed to be a "Zen sanctuary" for the viewer.
It’s a reminder that even in a small space, we can find room for our dreams to grow. May Gold Dreams Grow would be a perfect anchor for a bedroom setting, bringing that natural, grounded energy into the place where you rest and dream every night.
